The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department initiated prosecution against the licensee of a Mong Kok branch of a chain dumpling restaurant on November 6, after inspectors found unsatisfactory hygiene and a potential rodent-infestation problem. It also issued an improvement notice requiring corrective action.
The department also checked nearby premises and issued four further notices.
The action followed videos circulating online. One showed three rats in the Mong Kok branch’s dining area after closing, including one on the rim of a bowl. A separate video showed insects inside the menu lightbox at the chain’s Fortress Hill branch.
Inspectors visited Fortress Hill on November 5 and 6. The department said they found no evidence of insect breeding, but did find minor uncleanliness in the food-room area and issued the licensee an improvement notice.
