A woman in her 60s and her son in his 30s were injured during a confrontation in an upstairs unit on Tung Choi Street, Mong Kok, on 17 September 2026. The son suffered a chest injury and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, while his mother was treated at the scene before being taken to Kwong Wah Hospital.
The confrontation was reported to have taken place at about 7pm in a tenement building near Shantung Street. About two hours later, police received a report from the mother concerning an assault in an upstairs unit at 61 Tung Choi Street.
According to the mother’s account to police, as reported by Ming Pao, her son attacked her before she retaliated with a knife and wounded him in the chest. Star Headline reported more generally that someone was suspected of becoming agitated and holding a sharp object, without identifying who it was.
The reports differed over the son’s condition when responders arrived. Star Headline said he had lost consciousness, while Ming Pao reported that both the mother and son were conscious. The mother was described as conscious in the Star Headline account and had injuries to her nose and mouth.
The cause of the confrontation remained under investigation. Star Headline reported that the case was being followed as wounding and assault occasioning bodily harm.
