MTR ordered the main contractor to stop the relevant repair work at Tung Chung West Station after finding that some platform-level column tops had undergone material-filling repairs without prior approval. The finding came during a routine inspection of unfinished work in October 2026.

MTR said it was investigating columns in different areas of the station and the related construction procedures. Its initial investigation indicated that the situation did not involve structural safety.

Other media reports alleged that some concourse-level columns had not been filled to the ceiling.

The contractor must submit a report and corrective plan for MTR’s approval before work can resume, and will bear the related costs.
