A burst water main turned a Fanling junction into a muddy crossing on the night of 16 September, with water reaching about 1 foot deep and vehicles forced to drive through it. The incident happened at the junction of San Wan Road and Fanling Station Road, near Cheung Wah Estate.
The flooded area was estimated at about 20 metres by 20 metres, while muddy water flowed towards the estate. Multiple blocks temporarily lost their water supply as the water spread from the road.
Police attended after receiving a report and notified the Water Supplies Department. Images described by Star Headline showed cracks and raised sections of road around the junction, and some buses were briefly obstructed after reaching a sunken section.
The Water Supplies Department identified the underground fresh-water pipe as 200 millimetres in diameter. It arranged water trucks and tanks for residents while emergency repairs were carried out.
i-CABLE News reported that supplies gradually returned to normal at about 1.30am after the repairs.
