Shek O Tai Ping Ching Chiu, held every 10 years by Shek O, Big Wave Bay and Cape D’Aguilar villages, ran for five days from November 4. HK01 described this year’s festival as its 20th edition.
The main procession began on November 7 with a lion dance. Crowds filled the streets to watch, with spectators raising their phones to record it.
One attendee travelled from Wong Tai Sin with her husband and arrived at 9am, early because she expected heavy crowds. She said she had long looked forward to the festival.
A Shek O restaurant served only vegetarian food during the ritual period. Its manager said sales were about 50% higher than usual and that visitors accepted the menu, understanding vegetarian food as part of the festival tradition.
