The Hong Kong government has received Peggy Wong’s written resignation as a Tai Po District Councillor, citing health reasons. She has also stepped down from the Tai Po South Area Committee and as captain of the Tai Po Kwong Fuk and Plover Cove sub-district Care Team.
Wong had missed several council-related meetings because of illness, including meetings on August 20 and September 1. Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak said Wong had served the district for many years and that she respected her decision.
The resignation follows earlier media reports about disputed proxy votes linked to Wang Fuk Court. i-CABLE reported that the government had referred the matter to enforcement agencies for follow-up.
The DAB, of which Wong is a long-standing member, also said it respected her decision, thanked her for her community service and wished her a speedy recovery. The government said it would publish a Gazette notice declaring the Tai Po council seat vacant from September 26.
