Police are investigating after suspected pinhole recording devices were found in three changing rooms at the 24/7 Fitness branch on Lik Yuen Street, Sha Tin. The case has been classified as voyeurism, and no arrest had been reported at the time.
Police said a male member reported the first discovery at 5.11pm on 25 September. He had noticed an unusual gap in a false ceiling and a small flashing point, then alerted staff. The object, which was attached with black tape, was removed by gym employees before officers arrived; investigators subsequently found similar devices in two other changing rooms. The devices' wiring was connected to lighting circuits in the false ceiling.
Three of the branch's four changing rooms were temporarily closed after the discovery, but all four were open the following day; sections of the false ceiling had been opened for inspection, i-CABLE reported.
Members told i-CABLE they were worried about using the facilities. One said he might temporarily use another gym.
24/7 Fitness Sha Tin said on social media that it had immediately reported the matter, was actively cooperating with the police investigation and could not comment further while enquiries continued, adding that it would issue updates where appropriate.
The operator reportedly checked three other branches in the same district and found no further suspected pinhole cameras.
