Police said they arrested 51 people during a two-day anti-crime operation in New Territories South on September 11 and 12. Code-named RAGINGSTORM, it targeted crime-related activity and offences involving vehicles.
Officers set up roadblocks at several locations to check suspicious vehicles. They also inspected bars, game centres and other targeted premises.
The people arrested were suspected of offences including illegal assembly, dangerous driving and failing, without reasonable excuse, to provide a breath specimen for a breath test. The reported cases also included operating a gambling establishment, gambling in a gambling establishment and breaching a condition of stay.
The group comprised 34 men and 17 women, aged between 18 and 90, according to the police account carried by the two local outlets. The arrests describe suspected offences, not convictions.
Police described dangerous driving and failing without reasonable excuse to provide a breath specimen for a breath test as serious offences. It also described gambling-related offences as serious, but those warnings concern possible consequences on conviction rather than outcomes in these cases.
