A 31-year-old primary-school teacher has been jailed for three years after admitting eight offences involving two boys, aged nine and six, whom he had approached while claiming to offer free mathematics tutoring.
The offending took place between 2022 and 2024. During tutoring at the teacher’s home, he repeatedly abused the nine-year-old boy and filmed the private parts of the six-year-old. The offences included indecent assault and making child sexual-abuse material.
The court also heard that the teacher showed the older boy abusive sexual material despite the child saying he did not want to watch it. He used stopping the video to persuade the boy to allow further touching. Electronic devices seized from the teacher contained multiple child sexual-abuse videos.
Sentencing the teacher at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts, Judge Ko Wai-hung said the offending had breached the trust inherent in a teacher-pupil relationship and had continued for more than two years. The showing of abusive material and filming during the assaults were among the aggravating features identified by the court.
A psychological report identified paedophilia and a high risk of reoffending, and Ko accepted the relevant expert opinion. The court also considered that the teacher had used his relationship with the children to gain access to them.
The court imposed a total sentence of 36 months for the eight offences. The term was reduced by one third because of the guilty pleas, and the court found that there were no other mitigating factors.
