The share of primary-three pupils reaching the basic level in English rose 3.1 percentage points to 86.3% in the 2026 Territory-wide System Assessment. HK01 reported that this was the highest rate since the assessment began in 2004.
Primary-three Chinese reached 81.7%, up 0.3 percentage points, while mathematics stood at 84.7%, down 0.7 points. The figures are proportions reaching the basic level, rather than average scores.
Among secondary-three students, 69.2% reached the basic level in English, up 0.4 percentage points. Chinese fell 0.9 points to 77.1%, while mathematics rose 0.1 points to 78.3%. HK01 reported that the English rate had risen for a fourth consecutive year and was close to the pre-pandemic rate of 69.5%.
The Education Bureau said participating primary-three and secondary-three students’ results across Chinese, English and mathematics remained broadly stable and were generally similar to the previous assessment.
There is no territory-wide primary-six result this year: the assessment is held every other year, and schools could take part voluntarily in the intervening year.
