A unit at Siu Hong Court in Tuen Mun was reported to have been divided into five flats, rented out for years and registered under Hong Kong’s subdivided-flat scheme. The Secretary for Housing has warned that registration does not amount to certification, leaving the unit’s certification status unresolved.
Winnie Ho said on September 26 that the Housing Bureau would examine the unit’s building plans, technical requirements and the building deed before deciding whether it meets the certification requirements. The review will include whether those documents and restrictions allow that particular flat to be divided into five units.
Ho also said some Home Ownership Scheme flats whose land premiums have been paid can be bought and rented on the private market.
