A 61-year-old roadworks worker was killed when a dump truck struck and ran over her at a site near Pok Hong Estate on Sha Tin Road.

The collision happened at about 11am on November 5, 2026. The woman was reportedly washing mud from vehicles’ tyres at the site entrance; i-CABLE also reported that she was directing traffic.

HK01 reported that the truck’s left front struck her as it moved, then its left rear wheel ran over her. The driver became aware of the incident only after travelling about 20 metres.

Police arrested the 45-year-old driver on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death. HK01 reported that he was being detained for investigation.

The worksite is part of Trunk Road T4 in Sha Tin, a Civil Engineering and Development Department project that includes widening a roughly 150-metre stretch of Sha Tin Road near the estate.

The secretary-general of the Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims Limited said there were no measures separating people from vehicles at the site. She said the project had temporarily stopped work and called for an investigation and stronger safety management, including arranging people to direct traffic.
