San Tin Technopole could release its first 2 to 3 hectares by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
About 100 hectares of industrial land is reserved for the technopole. Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, said the authorities were discussing bringing in major industrial clients and hoped to accelerate the timetable once their projects were confirmed.
Sun said the government intended to use market forces to start developing the land.
Companies seeking industrial land are expected to meet requirements including contributing to gross domestic product, bringing in talent and creating jobs, according to Sun. He said similar requirements had been included in tendering for the Hetao area and that San Tin Technopole would have related standards.
Separately, a five-year plan calls for about 900 hectares of serviced land to be produced in the Northern Metropolis, including about 400 hectares for industrial use.
