Seven men have been arrested after police identified a reported confrontation between a private car and a group gathered at a road junction in Kwai Chung on 5 September. Police said an online video showed about 13 men at the junction of two roads, while the car drove towards the group and objects were thrown at the vehicle.
The arrests were made in various districts on 11 September and announced on 14 September. The suspects were aged between 25 and 47. Six were suspected of unlawful assembly and one of dangerous driving, according to police information reported by Star Headline.
The circulated footage was described as showing men pursuing and shouting at the car and throwing glass bottles at it before leaving in several vehicles. i-CABLE News also reported that, after the car drove towards the group, someone threw a hard object at it.
An unnamed resident told Star Headline that the location had become a gathering place where people were afraid to walk. The resident also complained that parking spaces were occupied, alcohol was consumed and electric delivery motorcycles created hazards around the road.
i-CABLE reported that police believed the men had triad backgrounds. The case is being handled by a New Territories South police anti-triad unit. All seven men were released on bail pending further investigation and must report to police in early October; the private car was detained for investigation and further examination.
