A 34-year-old suspended police officer and a 33-year-old woman have been jointly charged with one count of fraud over the alleged rental of a mortgaged property described as self-occupied.

The charge alleges that, between September 10, 2019, and April 24, 2022, they did not tell the bank that the property's occupancy had changed. It says they intended to induce the bank to refrain from demanding repayment of the difference between the mortgage balance and 50% of the property's latest valuation, along with related fees, or from ending all of the officer’s mortgage loans. It further alleges that they caused HKMC Insurance Limited not to exercise its right to end the bank’s loans to him.

The defendants appeared in court on November 6 and were not required to enter pleas while the defence sought documents. Each was granted HK$20,000 bail, with conditions not to leave Hong Kong and to report to a police station.

The case was adjourned to January 7, 2027.
