Three people have been arrested in connection with an incident in which a private car allegedly evaded police and collided with multiple vehicles in Mong Kok on September 7. The alleged driver and his girlfriend were arrested at a Kwun Tong hotel on September 9, while the 46-year-old man believed to have been the passenger and a drug buyer was arrested in Mong Kok the previous day and later released on bail.
A police officer and a female motorist whose car was struck were injured and later discharged from hospital after receiving treatment, according to police.
The car was abandoned in Hung Hom shortly after the incident. Police recovered two Viagra tablets from the vehicle, which were classified as a Part 1 poison. Officers also reviewed extensive CCTV footage, including recordings from the “Sharp Eyes” surveillance programme.
Police said the 29-year-old alleged driver faces allegations of furious driving, driving while disqualified, driving without valid third-party insurance, trafficking in dangerous drugs and possessing a Part 1 poison. The allegations have not been proven in court.
The driver’s girlfriend, described by police as a two-way permit holder, was held on suspicion of assisting an offender. Police accounts differ in how they describe the total number of alleged offences, so no definitive total has been given.
The alleged driver and his girlfriend were due to appear at Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts on September 11. Police said the investigation remained ongoing, including inquiries into the driver’s mental state, whether he was under the influence of illegal drugs or medication, and whether he was connected to other crimes.
