Three men were jailed for 27, nine and eight months after being convicted of attempted fraud over applications seeking HK$880,000 from a government relief fund. They were found guilty of 11 counts collectively.
Five people stood trial in the case. Two were acquitted.
The applications were made in 2020 under the Anti-epidemic Fund’s Retail Sector Subsidy Scheme. They used false shop photographs and supporting documents to claim subsidies for 11 purported retail businesses, including sellers of bird’s nest and books.
The applications were rejected.
The court also disqualified one of the men from serving as a company director or managing a company for four years, and the other two for three years each.
