Three pedestrians were injured when a private electric car reportedly lost control and mounted the pavement near Carmel Secondary School in Ho Man Tin on the afternoon of September 11, 2026. The crash happened at about 5pm near 55 Chiu Cheung Street.
The injured pedestrians were two women and one man. Ming Pao reported that the women were aged 41 and 48, while the man was 34; it identified the women as mainland Chinese and the man as local. All three were taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and Ming Pao reported that they were conscious.
Both reports said the car struck roadside objects, including a sign and a rubbish bin, before or while hitting the pedestrians. Ming Pao reported that the sign was flattened and the bin damaged. The vehicle was described as an MG electric private car displaying a probationary-driver “P” plate, with damage to its front and a shattered windscreen.
The driver, a 26-year-old man surnamed Chan, was arrested. Police suspect him of dangerous driving; Ming Pao described the suspected offence more specifically as dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to another person. Ming Pao also reported that he passed alcohol and drug tests and was detained for investigation.
Traffic restrictions were imposed on Chiu Cheung Street near Carmel Secondary School while police gathered evidence. According to Ming Pao’s report of a Transport Department notice, some lanes and nearby pavements were closed and temporary single-lane, two-way traffic was arranged.
The precise cause of the car losing control, the pedestrians’ eventual medical conditions and whether further or different charges will follow were not stated in the reports. Police investigations are continuing.
