A tram derailed on Shau Kei Wan Main Street East at about 1am on 12 October, mounting the pavement and striking a ground-floor shop. Nearly half the carriage ended up on the pavement.
The tram had left the local terminus for a depot in Sai Wan Ho when it came off the rails while turning. Its body tilted, some wheels left the roadway, and the shop’s sign and awning were damaged. No injuries were reported.
Police were investigating the cause. The tram was moved back onto the rails and towed away, and the tram company arranged an inspection of the tracks.
