Hong Kong Customs said it had arrested two passengers in separate suspected cannabis-trafficking cases at Hong Kong International Airport over two consecutive days. Both had arrived from Bangkok, and officers found suspected cannabis flowers in their checked baggage.
The first case was on September 12, when officers arrested a 33-year-old Malaysian woman. The following day, they arrested a 52-year-old mainland Chinese man in a second case.
The two seizures totalled approximately 9 kilograms of suspected cannabis flowers. Customs said both passengers were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking, and both cases remained under investigation when the arrests were reported.
Customs said it would continue using intelligence analysis and risk-management principles to select passengers from high-risk regions for customs inspections, as part of its efforts to target cross-border drug trafficking.
It also urged people not to accept payment or other arrangements to carry controlled items into or out of Hong Kong. Travellers should not carry items for someone else without first confirming what they are, Customs said.
