Two pig trucks overturned in separate crashes in the early hours of 20 September, leaving one driver with a hand injury and prompting differing accounts of the other driver's condition.
At about 2.50am, a medium goods vehicle carrying more than 30 pig carcasses overturned on Fanling Highway near a residential development. Its 55-year-old driver was temporarily trapped inside but eventually climbed out unaided. He was conscious and had a minor injury to his right hand before being taken by ambulance to hospital.
The cause of that crash was still being investigated. One report said the vehicle was suspected of losing control, while another said the driver reportedly swerved to avoid a bus changing lanes before the truck overturned.
At about 4.30am, another pig truck hit a roadside metal railing at the junction of Nathan Road and Waterloo Road in Yau Ma Tei before overturning. The driver climbed out unaided. Star Headline reported that the two trucks belonged to the same company.
The accounts differ over the Yau Ma Tei driver's condition. Star Headline reported that he was uninjured, while i-CABLE News said the 50-year-old sustained minor injuries, received initial treatment at the scene and refused transport to hospital.
Star Headline also reported an account that a traffic light had suddenly turned red, prompting hard braking before the truck lost control. Police were examining whether excessive speed was involved and were investigating the circumstances of the two crashes.
