Two restaurants belonging to the same group were splashed with red paint in separate incidents in Kwun Tong and Hung Hom on the morning of September 11. Police classified both cases as criminal damage and are investigating the motive.
The Kwun Tong branch, at East Plaza, 7 Sing Yip Street, was found affected at about 6am, with red paint on the restaurant’s name or sign and the ground at its entrance. One report put the time at about 6.39am.
At about 7am, staff at the group’s branch at Hung Hom Bay Centre, 92-112 Baker Street, found red paint on the entrance and sign. Reports also said red paint marks were left on nearby ground.
Staff at the Kwun Tong branch later cleaned the affected areas, and the restaurant continued operating as usual. At the Hung Hom branch, staff covered the affected section with hoardings.
A restaurant representative told one media report that the business had not had disputes with anyone and did not owe money. This was the representative’s account and was not presented as a police-confirmed motive.
The identities of those involved, whether anyone had been arrested and a definite motive had not been reported. The extent of the financial loss and cleaning costs was also not given as the police investigation continued.
