Two suspected break-ins were reported at separate Repulse Bay residences on September 11 and 12. One involved pry marks on a bedroom window, while the other involved a window that appeared to have been forced open; the reports do not establish whether the incidents were connected.
Star Headline reported that a female resident contacted police shortly before midnight on September 11 after finding pry marks on a bedroom window. The home appeared to have been searched, and an initial inventory listed three watches valued at about HK$437,000 and around RMB20,000 in cash as missing.
In the separate case, at a unit on Repulse Bay Road, the owner was outside Hong Kong when a domestic helper returned the following morning. She found a window prised open and signs of ransacking; the incident was then reported to police, according to accounts reported by Ming Pao and Star Headline.
The preliminary inventory in that case listed 15 handbags, valued at about HK$600,000, and jewellery worth roughly HK$30,000. That gives a reported estimate of about HK$630,000, but the final loss was still subject to further counting.
Police classified the second incident as a burglary, while the accounts did not identify a suspected perpetrator. The figures in both cases are initial estimates for separate incidents, rather than a confirmed combined loss.
