Two workers were injured at about 4pm on September 11 while carrying out slope investigation linked to foundation preparation near the Ma Tso Lung landfill area in Lok Ma Chau. Police described the case in a preliminary account as an industrial accident.
A bundle of iron pipes reportedly brought to the site by helicopter moved down the slope and struck them. The account remains provisional: Ming Pao said the bundle was suspected of toppling, while Star Headline described it as coming loose and rolling.
The bundle was reported to be about six metres long and to weigh roughly 800 kilograms. Both workers were conscious after being injured and were taken by helicopter to Eastern Hospital for treatment.
Police classified the case as an industrial accident involving accidental injury. Star Headline reported that it would be referred to the Labour Department for further follow-up, a procedural step rather than a finding on the cause or responsibility.
The reports leave unresolved what caused the bundle to topple or come loose, and whether any breach of workplace-safety requirements or responsibility will be identified in the follow-up.
