Footage circulated on Wednesday showed more than 10 rats moving around large rubbish bins outside an industrial building on Shing Yip Street in Kwun Tong. Some lids were open and rubbish was overflowing.
During an early-morning visit the following day, HK01 reported finding one rat in a cage and three to four running nearby. The bin lids were shut by then.
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department reported that from January to September 2026 it collected more than 20,000 dead rats, captured nearly 110,000 live rats and received 9,818 rat-related complaints across Hong Kong.
