A suspected Second World War explosive found on a North Point hiking path was safely dealt with at the scene on Tuesday morning, after police specialists assessed it as a British mortar fuze measuring about 7 centimetres long and 4 centimetres across.
The item was discovered on or near Po Luen Path, in the vicinity of a residential area, between 10am and 11am. Police cordoned off the path entrance as officers examined the object.
Firefighters brought a hose and deployed a firefighting robot as a precaution while the police Explosives Ordnance Disposal team examined the find.
It was detonated at the scene.
