Normal water supply was restored to seven Wong Tai Sin estates at 4am on 11 September after the Water Supplies Department completed emergency repairs to a damaged 750mm water main on Po Kong Village Road. The estates are Wang King Garden, Ka Fai Court, Fu Shan Estate, Sun Lai Garden, King Shan Court, King Hin Court and The Apex Horizon.
The pipe was reportedly damaged and began leaking inside a pavement excavation site after being affected by an electrical works contractor. The department shut off the water supply at 11pm on 10 September to carry out the repair. Star Headline reported that the work took about five hours.
The department said the works began after the peak water-use period and that the estates had been notified in advance to store water in their internal tanks. Water tankers were also used to refill some estate tanks. Both reports quoted the department as saying water supplies to the estates were not affected during the repair period.
Ming Pao reported that temporary supplies nearby included seven water tankers, more than 60 water tanks and about 20,000 bottles of water. A water-response team delivered water bags and bottled water to residents in need and elderly centres, with more than 200 people mobilised for the operation.
The reports did not give details of the damaged pipe’s exact location, any follow-up inspection, whether the contractor would face further action, or when temporary supply facilities would be removed. The department has confirmed that the emergency repair was completed and normal supply restored.
