A 42-year-old woman was acquitted of two conspiracy charges at Shatin Magistrates’ Courts on 2 November 2026 after the prosecution offered no evidence. An acting magistrate approved the prosecution’s application.

The prosecution alleged that she had entered a sham marriage with a man and falsely told the Immigration Department that she was entering Hong Kong to visit her husband, in an effort to secure permission to enter. A second charge alleged she falsely said he was the father of her expected child to obtain childbirth services at Union Hospital. The charges were conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to obtain services by deception.

The trial had been scheduled for June but was postponed over issues involving a key witness. The defence objected to starting the trial, saying it had not received material needed to cross-examine the witness. It later told the court it had received the relevant witness documents, and the case was listed for 2 November.
