A woman was injured when a bathroom fire involving a gas water heater broke out at May Bong Mansion in Prince Edward on 6 November. She was struck on the forehead by fragments, treated and taken to hospital, HK01 reported.

Police received a report at 7.25am that the heater was on fire; an explosion sound was also reported. Five residents were evacuated, and firefighters extinguished the blaze about 13 minutes after arriving.

On-scene sources cited by HK01 suspected gas had leaked from the heater. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

Experts cited by HK01 advised that anyone suspecting an indoor gas leak should, if safe, shut off the main gas valve and open doors and windows. They said to avoid operating electrical switches or using a mobile phone indoors, leave by the stairs, and call emergency services and the gas company’s emergency line from a safe place.
