A 61-year-old woman was killed when a dump truck struck her at the Sha Tin Trunk Road T4 Project site near Pok Hong Estate at about 11am on 5 November.
She was working at the site entrance, using a hose to wash mud from the tyres of vehicles entering and leaving the works site.
The Labour Department issued the contractor a temporary suspension notice stopping work on the site’s traffic route. Separately, the Civil Engineering and Development Department said related work had been suspended immediately and directed the contractor, CRBC-Build King Joint Venture, to investigate the accident and review safety procedures and measures.
The Labour Department is investigating the cause and possible legal responsibility. HK01 reported that police arrested the dump-truck driver on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.
Work on the traffic route may resume only when the Labour Department is satisfied that appropriate measures have been taken to remove the hazards.
