A black private car allegedly fled an attempted police stop in Yau Ma Tei, ran several red lights and collided with three vehicles on September 7, causing minor damage, police said. Three people were later arrested.
Police said officers spotted the car travelling slowly and appearing suspicious at about 4.45pm. The driver had parked at a bus stop outside 636 Nathan Road, and allegedly accelerated away when officers approached to inspect the vehicle. A male passenger got out and fled at the junction of Nathan Road and Dundas Street, while the car continued towards Gascoigne Road and Hung Hom.
The vehicle allegedly struck a private car near Hamilton Street after encountering traffic congestion on Nathan Road. Police said officers repeatedly warned and ordered the driver to stop, but the car continued and later hit a taxi and another private car, causing minor damage.
Police found the car in Hung Hom at about 5.10pm and seized two tablets classified as a Part I poison and commonly known as Viagra. Based on the seizure and subsequent inquiries, police said they believed the vehicle was connected with drug trafficking. That remains an investigative assessment and has not been established by a court.
The arrests involved a 29-year-old male driver, a 46-year-old male passenger and a 19-year-old Mainland woman holding a two-way permit. Police suspected the woman, described as the driver’s girlfriend, of helping the driver hide or evade the police. The sources did not report a response from her.
The driver faces allegations including dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without third-party insurance, trafficking in dangerous drugs and possessing a Part I poison. The male passenger, who reportedly works as a chef, was arrested on suspicion of trafficking in dangerous drugs, released on bail pending investigation and ordered to report to police in mid-October.
The male passenger was arrested in Mong Kok on September 8. On September 9, police used a court warrant to search a hotel room in Kwun Tong, where they arrested the driver and the woman. Officers seized keys linked to the car, clothing the driver allegedly wore on the day, a phone and HK$50,000 in cash. Police said the source of the cash remained under investigation.
A 46-year-old female passenger reported back and chest pain, while a 26-year-old police officer suffered a cut to his right hand. Both were conscious when taken to hospital and were discharged the same day. The driver and woman were expected to face charges and appear at Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court on September 11. Police said they would continue examining the driver’s mental state, whether he had been affected by drugs or narcotics, and whether other offences or cases were involved.
