The Customs and Excise Department seized about 8,000kg of untaxed manufactured tobacco from an inbound medium goods vehicle at Shenzhen Bay Control Point on October 29.

The tobacco had not been declared on the vehicle’s manifest. Officers selected the truck for inspection after intelligence analysis; it was said to be carrying plastic film and packing tape. They also found a small quantity of other undeclared goods.

A 55-year-old local male driver was arrested. Customs said it was tracing the tobacco’s source and destination and had not ruled out further arrests.
