Police received a call at 3.18pm on October 11 from a man who said his hiking companion appeared to have collapsed and was unconscious. Rescuers gathered at Wu Kau Tang Road Public Car Park to begin a search operation.
A Government Flying Service helicopter lifted the man from the scene and took him to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital. Rescuers used an automatic chest-compression device at the hospital; Ming Pao said the man was still unconscious when he reached the emergency department.
The man was pronounced dead after resuscitation. HK01 reported that the time was 5.01pm. Ming Pao later reported that police were investigating the cause of the incident.
