Travellers starting in Hangzhou or Wuhan and connecting through Hong Kong to international destinations are the first to be covered by a new baggage-transfer pilot. It is designed to let them check in for their full journey at their local airport, without reclaiming and checking in their bags again in Hong Kong.
The initial arrangements link Hong Kong airlines with carriers serving Hangzhou and Wuhan, allowing baggage to be transferred across different airlines. Cathay and Hong Kong Airlines are among the Hong Kong carriers named.
Commercial Radio reported that Airport Authority Hong Kong and the relevant airlines had connected with the mainland systems operator and were ready to begin selling tickets.
