A fire in I.PARK1’s third-module area on October 26 led the facility to temporarily stop accepting waste. Loads originally intended for I.PARK1 were diverted to the landfill in the western New Territories.

The Environmental Protection Department said Hong Kong’s overall waste-handling operations continued as normal during the pause.

After a comprehensive inspection of major systems in modules one and two, the department said they were safe and suitable to restart. Their gradual restart began on October 30, with system testing and trial operations continuing. I.PARK1 has resumed accepting waste.

The department is assessing the damage and its effects on the third-module area. It said it would press the contractor to prepare a repair plan promptly and carry out repairs.
