Police arrested a 61-year-old man in Central on November 2 over a suspected drink-spiking case involving DJ Mao Hamasaki. He was held for questioning on suspicion of administering poison with intent to harm. Police were investigating his relationship to Hamasaki and the motive.
Police received a report shortly before 5am on November 1 that a woman had fallen ill after drinking at a bar on Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. She was conscious when taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Hamasaki, 33, later described what happened in a social-media post reported by HK01.
She said she had noticed sediment in an orange-flavoured drink but thought it was orange pulp. About 40 minutes to an hour later, while DJing, her memory became blurred and she became unable to move. She said she lost consciousness and regained awareness in an ambulance.
Hamasaki said the hospital told her that four test indicators were positive. Her manager told HK01 that toxicology tests had shown positive results for four substances.
Scoop Plus later reported that Hamasaki had been discharged and went to give a statement.
