Police reported 30 arrests in Kwun Tong during an operation targeting an alleged street-prostitution network. They said the group used cameras to monitor police patrols.
Police said the group recruited women from mainland China through messaging apps, arranged for them to come to Hong Kong and directed them to designated units in Kwun Tong. Members allegedly instructed the women to solicit customers in public, communicating remotely rather than meeting them in person.
Technical workers allegedly installed internet-connected cameras on streets and sent live footage to phones. Police said members used the images to follow patrols and alert the women.
Twenty-four women were arrested during repeated operations. Police said a 35-year-old man had earlier been arrested while allegedly trying to install a camera; five more local people were arrested on October 27. Officers seized 10 cameras and two 5G routers.
