Police and the Hong Kong Fire Services Department seized about 2,400 litres of petrol, valued at about HK$90,000, from a suspected illegal filling station in Sha Tau Kok on October 29.
Police said the site was near homes and had no dedicated fire installations or equipment. If a fire broke out, it could pose a serious safety threat to nearby residents and buildings.
A 58-year-old man was intercepted on suspicion of operating the station and is to be prosecuted.
Residents can report suspected illegal fuel activity to the Hong Kong Fire Services Department’s 24-hour hotline on 5577 9666.
