The State Council decided on 3 November to remove Winnie Ho from her post as Hong Kong housing chief, on the recommendation of Chief Executive John Lee.

The decision followed Ho’s offer to resign on 28 October. Lee said he had accepted her resignation.

Lee said the fire involved no personal wrongdoing by Ho, but that she should take political responsibility because Wang Fuk Court fell within the remit of the Housing Department’s Independent Review Section. The government published the independent committee’s investigation report into the fire on 29 October.

The deputy financial secretary was also appointed acting housing secretary.
