A 34-year-old woman has been jailed for 18 months after being convicted at trial of five fraud counts and one attempted fraud count over fake concert tickets. She was sentenced on 30 October at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts, sitting as a District Court.
The judge accepted that the woman was an employed participant, not the mastermind, but said people in such roles enabled organisers to sell fake tickets. The court also considered the victims’ financial losses and their disappointment at missing a concert they had hoped to enjoy with friends or family.
The prosecution said six people enquired online about tickets to the You & Mi world-tour concert. They were quoted HK$1,600 to HK$3,500 for a pair. The woman met buyers at different MTR stations and used an ultraviolet light to show security labels on the tickets, prosecutors said.
Five buyers paid HK$9,100 in total and were told on the concert day that their tickets were fake. A sixth suspected the ticket was fake at the handover and sought police help.
