A magistrate approved the prosecution’s application to add an animal-cruelty charge against a 52-year-old dog owner at a hearing on 29 October. Ming Pao reported that two small dogs were suspected of dying after attacks by a large dog.
The new charge alleges that on 17 August, at his residence, the owner failed to ensure a male yellow mixed-breed dog was properly controlled, causing two other dogs unnecessary pain or suffering.
The owner already faces two charges alleging that he allowed a large dog into or to remain in a public place without a lead no longer than two metres. They concern alleged incidents on 10 July and 17 August near Grand YOHO.
The case was adjourned to 7 January 2027 at Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts for the prosecution to disclose documents to the defence. The owner was allowed to remain on bail under the existing conditions.
