Hong Kong police are investigating social-media footage that appears to show a dog inside a washing-machine drum while it was running. Police said the case was initially classified as requiring police investigation and referred to the Mong Kok district animal team for follow-up inquiries.
The footage appears to show the dog rolling inside the drum; one report also said water was entering the machine and the dog became wet. The reports have not established whether the incident constituted animal cruelty.
Police said they received an electronic report on the evening of 29 August concerning footage circulating on social media that appeared to show a dog being treated improperly. Reports differed on whether one or two Instagram Stories were circulating.
The footage does not state when or where it was recorded. Reports have not confirmed the identity of the person involved or the dog’s current condition.
No one had been arrested at the time of reporting. It remains unclear whether the investigation will lead to an arrest or other action.
