The Vocational Training Council (VTC) plans to offer more than 14,000 places across about 140 courses in the 2027/28 academic year, an increase of more than 10%.
VTC provided about 13,000 places in the current academic year, Ming Pao reported. The council expects additional places to focus on popular subjects including engineering and health care, according to its senior assistant executive director for academic affairs.
Two new programmes are planned: a foundation diploma in mental health and community education, and a higher diploma in event entertainment technology. VTC said the first responds to growing attention to mental health and community support. The event technology course is intended to combine large-event production with drone technology and train people to support major events.
Applications open on November 5 through VTC’s Form 6 admissions platform. Students can use one application to apply for courses at different VTC institutions.
VTC colleges will hold course information and experience days on Fridays and Saturdays this week and next, offering course talks and visits to facilities.
Applicants who submit by February 28, 2027, may receive conditional offers from late March.
