At about 5pm on October 24, a passerby reported a calf trapped in Shek Sheung River, outside the ambulance station in Sheung Shui. The water was shallow, but concrete walls on both sides left the animal unable to climb out.

Firefighters first tried to lift the calf with a net, ropes and a capture pole, but could not get it out. One firefighter then entered the water, carried the calf to the channel wall and passed it to colleagues on the bank.

The calf was safe and ran back to the herd.
